RE: Johnson City TN to Martinsville VA

I am more interested in the State or National parks. They seem to have larger sites to camp in. Also "Must see" places in the area
Thanks

RE: Johnson City TN to Martinsville VA

I have but one recommendation for the Martinsville area, it is Goose Point Park located just a little north of Martinsville. This is an Army COE campground, water & electric... the water front sites are great, I highly recommend sites 17 or 18... they have an interactive map on their website, you can click on each site number to get a picture of the campsite...
Looks like a nice place. This one wont work due to the fact they dont open till April. Our trip is in March

RE: Leaf spring upgrade AND add shocks

I am wanting shocks simply based on talking to other fiver owners that added shocks afterwards and made a smoother ride for the fiver, (especialy for rear kitchen fivers like mine),
As far as beefier springs, It seems like I can here the spring bottom out going over bridges. Where the 2 springs meet in the middle at the "Trail-air equa-flex, The end of the spring hits on the frame.
I am also considering welding on longer brackets to extend the springs. I could use about 1 1/2" in height, which would also help keep the spring from bumping the fiver frame.

Leaf spring upgrade AND add shocks

Has anyone replaced their orginal leaf springs on a fiver unit? My springs look whimpy and are almost flat looking.
I also would like to add shocks. It doesnt have shocks now. It also doest have any bracket/mounts for adding shocks.
I am looking for suggestions on both
Thanks in advance

TrailAir, Air Pin Box feedback needed

I am considering replacing my standard pin box with TRAIL_AIR Air Pin box on my fifth wheel. I am looking for someone who has made the switch from a standard pin box to The Trail-AIr to hear all the pros and cons, price, and where they bought it
Thanks in advance

RE: roof mounted wind deflecter on tow vehicle roof?

After further reading, It seems that a wind deflecter might work based on the distance from the nose of fifth wheel and angle of deflecter. Anyone have a wind tunnel I can borrow that I can pull my fifth wheel into?? :h:?

RE: forest river

ok quality for the money
Small issues, nothing major, 2 drawer guides came loose. I repaired with stronger guides for a few bucks at the local hardware store
I would buy another, matter of fact, I would love to get a 2009 Forest river Cardinal 3100RK

RE: My turn...dropped 5er onto tailgate...lucky

I read about this scenario alot!. I have a Pro-series reese 5th wheel hitch. It has a Flat slider bar that, when I back up to hitch the fiver, the flat bar slams itself shut as the fiver pin slides in the hitch. I still visually check it. And I check it again. LOL, before pulling away. Also, when I feel I am ready to pull out, I take 1 last walk araound the truck and fiver, checking everything again.
Now, I know, sooner or later, I will have my turn at this scenario, But I keep checking and checking to keep the odds in my favor
Important thing in your case is no one was hurt. Everything else can be fixed

RE: roof mounted wind deflecter on tow vehicle roof?

jmcnab,
Just to clarify, I am talking about the larger deflecters on the roof of a tow vehicle to deflect air off of the nose of the trailer

roof mounted wind deflecter on tow vehicle roof?

Are they worth buying and if so, recommondations for a brand/model
Hoping to keep bugs off nose of fiver and increase fuel mileage.
Had a empty cooler in the back of the truck on a trip recently and noticed how the air had the cooler bouncing all over the place. I was amazed how radical the air was back there! Hoping the wing on the tow vehicle roof will iliminate that as well
Thanks in advance

RE: advice/tips wanted for towing 35' 5th wheel

Hi, I just bought a 35' fifth wheel, brand new, and I love it. But, I haven't tried to get gas with it hitched yet. I have years of experience pulling a 25' trailer through Flying Js and smaller stations, but am nervous about turning radius and maneuvering now. I have a long bed crew cab dually with a bad turning radius to begin with.
It's a gas engine, wondering if I can do the pull through that the trucks go through, unless they are all diesel. They have the two slot for RVs, but it seems like, to my memory, that it'll be a little small now.
Any advice on turning and maneuvering, beyond "Take it wide"?
Thanks!
You will be fine going to the same places you went with the 25' TT. I felt the same way when I first got my fifth wheel. Just take your time. After you do it a few times, its a piece of cake

RE: What do I need to plead for different tires?

The sooner you go back the better. Hopefully the dealer is willing to listen, somehow, get in front of the manager and explain in detail, and negociate something to get them changed out. Maybe the dealer will take your old set-up and put it on another RV they have in stock, giving you some kind of credit, and then, either through ther dealer, or get cash and go to a tire dealer and get what you need for tires.
Go Now

RE: Feedback wanted on RVdirect.com

Take your quote from RVDirect to the local dealer and add a few bucks,(that you would have spent traveling to RVDirect), and make a deal localy. You will get better service from a dealer you bought from.
This is the process I used when buying mine. The dealer was very happy to do business with me, and service is great
